Our surgeons are dedicated to providing their patients with the latest technology. As a part of this quest they work closely with the Clinical Research Center at Sarasota Memorial Hospital to participate in and recruit major clinical trails to our facility. The Research Department has earned a national reputation for research excellence since its formation. It is sought after by outside companies and organizations to participate alongside such distinguished facilities as those found at Duke or Emory University and the Cleveland Clinic.
Our surgeons have participated in studies that have been specifically designed to investigate hemodilution, robotics, medically treated bypass grafts, and new heart valves. Drs. Lewis and Beggs are currently participating in the EPIC Valve trial which is sponsored by St. Jude Medical. The SJM Epic valve is an innovative stented porcine tissue valve that offers the combined benefits of a proven valve design and anticalcification technology.
